Sinethemba Crèche rebuild

In January 2018 a creche in Motherwell Port Elizabeth, was burnt down just a few days before schools reopened. We had the opportunity of learning about the incident in the local newspaper and made our way to Motherwell a few days later. The creche accommodated almost 100 of the local communities’ children who were now left stranded without a school to attend. With the help of corporate funding we were able to assist with rebuilding the creche from scratch. The project was quite a challenge as we had very limited resources and had to rely heavily on the donations of congregants and local businesses. The greatest amount of help came from local community members who offered to assist with labour at a very low wage. We were able to rebuild the creche in a few weeks and were delighted to hand over an even bigger and better building than what was previously there to accommodate more children.

The project was the beginning of a lasting relationship with Sinethemba creche. Over the year we have supported them with goodies and other infrastructural needs with the help of other organizations and corporate who were willing to assist

In July 2018, we spent “67 Minutes of Mandela Day” at the creche and provided sandwiches as well as a large cake that was kindly donated by the OFT Group. We mention all this because of the realization of how small donations of time and resources can make a big difference in someone else’s life.
